I'm an engineer by training and a musician by instinct, and lately a mediator and podcaster too, which is more hats than I planned on.
For four decades I worked where technology meets entertainment: at Kodak, where I helped found the Cineon project that brought Hollywood film into the digital age, then SGI, Philips, Thomson, TiVo, and Roku. Today my day job is at Joby, helping launch one of the first electric air taxis.
Through Greco Media I produce, edit, mix, and master music for independent artists. It's the quiet, precise part of my work: serving someone else's creative vision until it sounds like the version they hear in their head.
Through Greco Mediation, practicing as John Greco and Associates, I help people work through workplace conflict, neighbor disputes, and everyday civil disagreements, the kinds of conversations that get harder the longer you avoid them. It's where I get to listen carefully and take both sides seriously at the same time.
My brother Ralph and I are also writing Fiddle Around and Find Out, a book about discoveries born from accidents, misuse, and play.
And through the Notional Inquiry podcast, and the writing on this site, I get to think out loud about how those threads connect. Music, mediation, attention, conversation, the strange business of being a person paying attention to other people. Some episodes are solo inquiries; others are conversations with a guest who knows the territory better than I do. That's what I'm here to talk about.
Thanks for stopping by.
